Whitney Dee

Whitney Dee, a 17-year-old senior at Mountain View High School, is no stranger to the Ken Garff/Chase Keys to Success program. So far she has received the limit of three Keys to Success key cards every year, and has really utilized her ability to redeem the cards for prizes. Last year she saved up the cards and took her entire family to the zip-line courses in Park City. When students are given a key card, they are then in the running to win a car at the Ken Garff/Chase Keys to Success car give-away in the spring. Fifty students are chosen out of the five hundred cards given out to each high school, and Whitney was lucky enough to be one of the top fifty last year. “It’s more exciting when you’re in the final fifty.” That’s probably because each finalist is given a key, they then try it in the ignition of the car that is being given away and whichever key turns on the car is the winner! Sadly she didn’t win last year, but she’s got her fingers crossed for the give-away in just a few months. She joked that her parents are more excited about the program then she is, “My dad always says, ‘Did you get a key card today?’” Winning a car would be a great option for her because currently her parents drive her to school, then afterwards, she walks home. She is currently working at the Hale Center Theater in Orem to save up for a car. “I’m not involved in theater, but it’s a fun place to work. I love to be around the actors and to make good friends there.” She would be happy to drive anything, but she has her eye on anything that is a Honda or Toyota make.
In school, Whitney is starting to get a small case of senioritis but she says, “It’ doesn’t matter, because once you are done college is just around the corner.” Currently, she is in the application process and aspires to go to Brigham Young University. For her though, senioritis is easy to get over because she loves everything about Mountain View, “It’s just a happy school. Very bright and cheerful.” She continues, “All of my classes mesh well together. I also like all of my teachers this year.” This is a great quality for her senior year, since she considers herself to be very academic. She received her latest Ken Garff/Chase Keys to Success key card for being the Math student of the month in her calculus class. “I just do my best to understand it,” she stated. She is also a member of the National Honors Society. When asked what her biggest inspiration was, she replied, “I have a lot of family support, but my main motivator is myself.”
